Gurr Lake Females
Our Registered Angus cows (and our herd sires for that matter) all came from McCumber Angus Ranch. McCumber's reputation is for producing top-quality females that transmit superior maternal traits, carcass quality and fertility to their offspring. We feel very fortunate to start our Angus operation with this foundation. The support and advice we have received from Chuck and Matt Tastad have been immensely valuable. In addition to our foundation herd we have purchased several oustanding females from Van Dyke Angus Ranch in Montana and made more trips back to McCumber to purchase additional females. Our herd currently numbers 72 registered females that we breed in the spring of 2005.
The rock solid female at left is Miss Wix 012 of Gurr Lake, a daughter of Mr Wix of McCumber 204. She has grown up to be a beautiful Pathfinder cow and currently owns a weaning ratio of 4 @ 108.  She just weaned a fabulous son of our home-raised herd bull Gurr Lake Right Time 302.

Her Pathfinder dam, Miss Wix 6117 of McCumber, recorded a WR of 3 @ 109. Unfortunately, we lost Miss Wix 6117 in the fall of 2001.

The two daughters of Miss Wix 6117 in our herd have weaned 7 calves with a combined ratio of 108.

VDAR Pride 9025. Purchased at the Van Dyke 2000 female sale, this featured Papa Durabull daughter looks great and has a perfect udder. Her current ratios are: BR 5 @ 97, WR 5 @ 110 and 3 yearlings at 110. She is doing a tremendous job for us. This cow is certainly a donor candidate. VDAR Elluna 0133. This featured female was our top pick at the 2001 Van Dyke Female Sale. She's a Lucys Boy daughter out of a VDAR New Trend 933 cow. The maternal grandam is the $36,000 VDAR Elluna 97. Her dam is a full sister in blood to the extremely productive Van Dyke Ellunas 4161 and 4167. This young cow produces extremely stylish, deep-bodied progeny. BR 4 @ 98, WR 4 @ 106, YR 3 @ 109.

Her 2005 heifer calf will be offered through the ND Select Angus Sale.

Miss Wix 6151 of McCumber. Her fourth generation Pathfinder dam, Miss Wix 098 of McCumber was a McCumber donor that sold for $22,000 in 1997. The grandam is the legendary Miss Wix 365 of McCumber. Her maternal sister, Miss Wix 352 of McCumber sold for $9750 in the 2000 McCumber Female Sale. 6151 has now added two terrific Rito 8007 daughters to our replacements.

Her 2004 son - Gurr Lake 8007 Rito 421 has been retained as a herd sire.

Her 2005 son is another candidate to be retained next year.
